Course Overview

Caregiving Course

Basically the word caregiver stands for a family member or paid helper who regularly looks after a child or a sick, elderly, or disabled person. However, in South Asian countries including Bangladesh, the word caregiver implements that a caregiver is a person who provides care regarding the activities of daily living for the sick and the elderly in exchange for a pay. In other parts of the world, they are also known as patient caregivers, support workers, and personal support workers.

The demand for professional caregivers has always been high, and the pandemic has fueled it further. In accordance with the statistics from marketresearch.com, the health caregiving market in the US was estimated at US$30 billion in the year 2020. China, the world’s second-largest economy, is forecast to reach a projected market size of US$50.5 billion by the year 2027. Normally the elderly and people with physical and mental disability require the services of a caregiver. In Bangladesh, it is predicted by experts that the demand for caregivers only going to grow more and that will open new avenues for caregiving businesses. Opening new caregiving businesses will result in creation of new job opportunities, which is always welcome. We now have the data that by the year 2050 to 2061, there will be 20 million elderly people in Bangladesh. As per a recent media report when a nation’s seven per cent population are 65 years of age, that nation is considered as an aged society. According to experts in our country by the year 2029, seven per cent of our population will be aged 65 or more. Citing Unicef’s Tomoo Hozumi, The ageing of Bangladesh’s population is faster than even Japan. The will naturally create a huge demand for caregivers. The best way to manage this demand is to prepare more professional  caregivers and that only can be done when this sector becomes more commercially worthwhile.
